Fire Station, Corning, New York, 1973 designed by Gunnar Birkerts Associates
The triangular form was prompted by the housing of different size fire engines for fast exit. With the facade treatment of polished fire-engine-red metal panels, aluminum checkerplate base, stainless steel coping and red gyrolights that flash at the corners to signal an emergency the image of analogy is both obvious and playful. Located in a barren floodplain, the building become a minimalist object expressive of a highly stylized distilled machine aesthetic. In a positive sense its symbolism is a continual visual reassurance of functional efficiency to the community. -- P. Heyer, "American Architecture: Ideas and Ideologies in the Late Twentieth Century", Van Nostrand Reinhold, NY, 1993, P.23
Ralph Landau Chemical Engineering Building, MIT, Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA, 1976 designed by Pei Cobb Freed & Partners
The thirty-degree angle of Main Street to Memorial Drive is reflected in the form with its chisel-pointed end that threatens to slice Ames Street. -- "A.I.A. Guide to Boston", Michael and Susan Southworth, The Globe Pequot Press, Chester, CT, 1991. P. 429-430

National Gallery of Art, East Building, Washington, D.C., USA, 1978 designed by Pei Cobb Freed & Partners
In solution, the trapezoidal site was sliced into two triangles — one for each function — with a triangular atrium unifying the whole. In plan, section and elevation, the interlocking volumes merge inseparably in a spatial dialogue of rigorous geometry, technical innovation and exacting craftsmanship. --

Watari-um, The Watari Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo, Japan, 1990 designed by Mario Botta
located on a difficult triangular lot of 160 m2 on the Olympic Boulevard, next to an anodyne, bulky tower a motley and chaotic urban context.
architect combines pure forms, abstract geometry and extraordinary use of light, both in the interior lighting of the spaces as in the definition of exterior surfaces.
The volumetric composition is a lesson in urban architecture. The architect divides the facade into two elements: the corner and the plane of the facade. -- My Architectural Moleskine

Museum für Moderne Kunst(MMK) , Frankfurt, Germany, 1991 designed by Hans Hollein
in the form of Museum für Moderne Kunst, which owing to the shape of its footprint Frankfurt citizens and all lovers of post-modern architecture refer to as the “piece of cake”, Hollein achieved a miracle. He succeeded, for example, in structuring the triangular building on the triangular site such that a tour of the building becomes an emphatic experience in its own right. -- official web site

Antiquities Museum, Arles, France, 1995 designed by Henri Griani
The Musée départemental de l'Arles antiques, opposite the remains of the Cirque Romain, was inaugurated in 1995. Henri Ciriani's architectural project, decidedly modern, is adapted to the basic functions of an archaeological museum:
1. The transmission and presentation of collections to the public;
2. Conservation and restoration, with a mosaics conservation and restoration workshop and an archaeology laboratory;
3. The reception of different kinds of publics (visits, workshops, internships).
The building's triangular layout symbolically incarnates these three functions. -- official web site

Kielder Belvedere, Northumberland, Pennsylvania, USA, 1999 designed by Softroom
On approach from the park, two etched-steel mirror walls reflect the forest and flank a doorway set beneath a richly-coloured glass canopy. The triangular shelter is entered via its apex, through an apparently very thick wall. The curve of the door suggests what lies beyond; a golden circular chamber, lit by soft daylight filtering through a coloured skylight. -- ArchDaily

Forum 2004 Building and Plaza, Barcelona, Spain, 2004 designed by Herzog & de Meuron
the elevated flat triangular body emerged almost spontaneously, because it maximizes the possible footprint by forming an extensive cover for the plaza and perfectly expresses the specific situation of the land it occupies between the branches of the right-angled Cerda Grid and the Avenida Diagonal. --

Museu Blau, Museu de Ciències Naturals de Barcelona, Barcelona, Spain, 2011 designed by Herzog & de Meuron
Relocating the Museum of Natural Sciences into the Forum Barcelona building signals the beginning of a new life cycle for both institutions: one where each mutually benefits from the space, program and potential of the other. And the Museum of Natural Science promises to energetically revitalise the existing building, replacing vacant space with intense new public activities. --

Artistic amenity Stadshaard, Enschede, The Netherlands, 2009 designed by Cie
the Stadshaard (literally the ‘city hearth’) stands at a prominent spot in Roombeek, where a neutral building would be out of place. With the Stadshaard’s dimensions (a building 10 metres high with a 40-metre chimney) it would, moreover, be impossible to realize an ‘invisible’ building that merges with the surroundings. --

Roslyn Street Bar-Restaurante, Potts Point, Sydney, Australia, 2009 designed by Durbach Block Jaggers
....a triangular shaped site, less than 200m2 in size. The rounded end looks directly onto a small public space. The shape of the site exaggerates perspective, the tiny footprint amplifies the perception of height.
We wanted the building to sit easily in its place, to recognize the architectural traits of its neighbors. -- ArchDaily

Yale University Health Services Building, New Haven, Connecticut, USA, 2010 designed by Mack Scogin Merrill Elam Architects
In placing the Health Services Center building on the southeast portion of the block, it is possible for the building plan to take on a triangular shape. This shape provides a generous perimeter wall to floor area ratio, a condition favorable to maximizing daylight into the building interior. The triangular plan shape with a centralized vertical transportation core is extremely compact and efficient. In addition to the perimeter walls, daylight and views are introduced by deep horizontal cuts into the plan and by vertical light wells. --

Sunhouse, Hørsholm, Denmark, 2010 designed by Christensen & Co. architects
Due to the geometry, position of windows and a range of state of the art green technologies, this will be the first nursery in the world that actually produces energy. The building is very compact and is designed as a triangle, with the two longest facades facing south east and south west. The windows along these facades, combined with the roof lights, allow more than three times as much light to enter as in a standard building, ensuring a healthy indoor climate at all times, – summer and winter. --

Lanyang Museum, Yilan County, Taiwan, 2010 designed by Artech Architects
The volume’s dominant geometry is inspired by the natural Cuesta rock formation, commonly found on the coast. By inserting the triangular mass into the ground at an angle, the minimalist architectural geometry mimics the nearby terrain. The building consists of interlacing solid and glass volumes, where the solid volume is reserved for exhibition and administrative spaces and the glass volume serves as the main lobby and the restaurant area. -- ArchDaily

Rest Villa Funabori, Edogawa-Ku Tokyo, Japan, 2010 designed by Jun’ichi Ito Architect & Associates
... a triangular shape has been derived owing to a clear diagram of public and private zoning and migratory of the program. A triangular center area on the standard floor has been designated as a public zone. The ceiling of the triangular area has been kept transparent in three places. Two areas have been kept open and falling rain or snow is visible. One is a light court with a glass skylight. The three triangular areas allow natural light to enter the room, ensuring that the corridor space is always brightly lit. -- ArchDaily

Alamillo Health Center, Avenida Sánchez Pizjuán, Seville, Spain, 2010 designed by Suárez Corchete
Triangles abound, as a result of the common diagonal block associations.
Alamillo Health Center was proposed to address this retrofit, fully
assuming its limitations. Not forcing height clearances that allow
gentler traces, we used the existing and demanding acute triangle for a
plan that would have to be very compact. --

Riverview Park Visitor Service Building I, Louisville, Kentucky, USA, 2011 designed by De Leon & Primmer Architecture Workshop
Referencing the agrarian & river transportation history of the site, the design concept for the park building originates from the recognizable imagery of regional tobacco barns and the river barges that are frequently visible from the park. Merging the volumetric ‘container’ attributes of barn & barge precedents, the project presents a playful park structure that is both familiar & new. -- ArchDaily

Memphis Veterinary Specialists, Cordova, Tennessee, USA, 2011 designed by archimania
The building’s shape was created by reconciling the constraints of the site with the program. Interior spaces for surgery, specialty procedure, and support were wrapped around the main treatment area at the core of the building. The building’s cantilevered entrance and light monitors are oriented northward to provide optimaldaylighting and to address the main access road. The landscape of the creek that borders the southwest portion of the site became a counterpoint to the building’s mass. Attention was given to how interior spaces viewed the creek and how a space could be made between the tree line of the creek and the building. -- ArchDaily
