One of the principal premises was not to interfere directly the land, as part of the philosophy of the project is to respect nature in every possible way. The availability of steel by our client lead to the design of the clean structure with this material, which elevates the skeleton of the room, named EcoLoft, to avoid contact with the soil. The project “Between Cathedrals” seeks to create an intervention worthy of the most significant location in the history of Cadiz, the oldest city of the West: the empty space facing the sea located between the Old and New Cathedrals.
The basic premise is to cover and protect an archeological excavation. Additionally, this new plane serves as a base for a space facing the ocean, a raised public space providing clear views unobstructed by cars passing on the circle road.  -- ArchDaily

The INCS Zero Factory and showroom is a building focused on merging landscape with architecture and art with technology.  Two L-shaped factory floors (one built, one planned) form a central courtyard, which is entered through an abstraction of a traditional Torii gate and evokes the serenity of a Japanese Zen garden. Within this open space, an east-facing glass-enclosed pavilion, containing presentation and public functions, overlooks a stepped reflecting pool. Oval in plan, the three-story pavilion is wrapped in clear low-e insulating glass, which emphasizes the uniform massing of the complex and reflects the sky. -- ArchDaily

Protruding through the level 4 public domain on the podium the office tower proper rises a further 14 floors, sheared at alternate levels. The articulation of the facade aids in the mitigation of the `reverent Docklands winds, causing the wind to skirt around the building rather than down the face onto the public spaces. Sheathed in a skin of high performance glazing the facade is articulate firstly via an applied fit and secondly with a random fins – both of which assist in the reduction of glare and heat load internally.  -- ArchDaily

The building presents a glass reinforced concrete (GRC) façade as a ‘veil’ to the high street edge screening the site’s interior. This screen has been conceived as an abstraction of the historical facades adjacent.
In a gesture to the finely scaled historical neighbourhood, we have sought to fragment the building form to alleviate the potential mass associated with a medium sized office building. Hence, 5 towers are further fragmented vertically to articulate the composition of stacked office and retail spaces gathered into a socially sustainable working community. -- ArchDaily

Each volume contains two different faces according to the function and program: The elevation towards the street des Petits Ponts contains studio balconies-baskets of different sizes made from HPL timber stripes. The Interlace, Singapore, 2013 designed by OMA
It is a breathtaking one, made up of 31 six-story rectangular blocks that appear woven, and are arranged on top of each other at angles. The flush, white-painted concrete facades are occasionally interrupted by slender horizontal balconies, from which greenery will cascade as it grows. The building snakes around and through its roughly rectangular 20-acre site like a line of toppled dominoes.  -- Architectural Record

The plan is centered on two distinct buildings which are connected by a long white concrete veil. The veil, the primary visual feature of the overall plan, blends vertical and horizontal motions as it slowly curves in a helical movement.
This veil achieves the double feature of insuring the continuity between each building while allowing one to discover the rear landscape in all its depth. Thus this long concrete helix, which recalls the aeronautical context of the site, both protects the building by marking the front of street as well as welcomes us by its inviting view. -- ArchDaily

The results of Pei Cobb Freed & Partners’s explorations of speed and spectacle evolved into an architectural element they call the Ribbon, which envelops the varied program elements in a form that speaks to the imagery and spirit of NASCAR. Beginning as a curved, sloping exterior wall enclosing the building, the Ribbon twists in a free span over the main entry to form a welcoming canopy. Inspired by the dynamic quality of speed, captured in a second as a blur on film, the long, thin incisions in this metal skin are analogous to the blur of a car racing past the spectator at tremendous speed.  -- ArchDaily

The sinuous curves of Haus am Weinberg are governed by the idea of creating a “twist” which organizes the programmatic flow of the residence.  By twisting the central staircase, the floor plates are divided into different zones that are grouped based upon privacy and activity levels.  The corners of the residence are fully glazed which allow daylight to flood the interiors and the edges to dissolve into their surroundings. -- ArchDaily

The north and west facades are covered by perforated aluminium plates, which let in air and light to the parking area. The holes in the facade form a huge reproduction of Mount Everest. At day the holes in the aluminium plates will appear black on the bright aluminium, and the gigantic picture will resemble that of a rough rasterized photo. At night time the facade will be lit from the inside and appear as a photo negative in different colours as each floor in the parking area has different colours. -- ArchDaily

This monolith is lined with a protective outer jacket, a front filter in natural anodized aluminum perforated. The mesh sheet perforated aluminum dresses ropy balconies and attics of two buildings. At east, the house gets its identity. The intimacy is guaranteed by stainless steel panels, perforated with the “siglas poveiras”. These symbols are a proto-writing system once used as a way of communication and to mark personal and fishing belongings. Dream Downtown Hotel, New York City, New York, USA, 2011 designed by Handel Architects
the sloped façade was clad in stainless steel tiles, which were placed in a running bond pattern like the original mosaic tiles of Ledner’s Union building. New porthole windows were added, one of the same dimension as the original and one half the size, loosening the rigid grid of the previous design, while creating a new façade of controlled chaos and verve.
The tiles reflect the sky, sun, and moon, and when the light hits the façade perfectly, the stainless steel disintegrates and the circular windows appear to float like bubbles. The orthogonal panels fold at the corners, continuing the slope and generating a contrasting effect to the window pattern of the north façade. -- ArchDaily

Water jet cut operable shades and an ironwood timber wrapper per formatively lowers heat gain while giving a dramatic elevation. As the sun goes around the golden colour of the „hall-sculpture” is always changing hour by hour, day by day, season to season.In the facade the past and present champions are illustrated. The base of the building will be constructed from concrete and will stand up to the anticipated knocks and scrapes of heavy use.  Above head-height the structure becomes a filigree, shiny metal screen, allowing for light and ventilation without letting views in. Skin of Architecture: Pattern 4

The low-rise is wrapped in two brick patterns, one for the exterior walls and the other for the interior walls. These overlap in the entry passageway, producing a third pattern. The mid-rise and the bridge are clad in cast stone blocks, but used differently from one another. The surface treatment of all of the volumes is designed to allow the ideal prismatic geometry of the various building masses to register on the façade planes. -- architect's web site.

The initial design proposed a simple concrete skeleton filled with bricks: The masonry acts as a temperature buffer, as well filtering the sunlight for the fermentation room behind it. The bricks are offset so that daylight penetrates the hall through the gaps between the bricks.  
The robotic production method that we developed at the ETH enabled us to lay each one of the 20,000 bricks precisely according to programmed parameters—at the desired angle and at the exact prescribed intervals. This allowed us to design and construct each wall to posses the desired light and air permeability, while creating a pattern that covers the entire building façades. According to the angle at which they are set, the individual bricks each reflect light differently and thus take on different degrees of lightness. -- ArchDaily

Terracotta bricks were made from local clay with local knowledge, composing the structure and façades. Skilled village construction workers very familiar with the medium were able to facilitate the marriage of traditional savoir-faire with new and progressive design. Three different textures of brick skin make up the façade. An interlocking pattern leaves perforations between bricks, and protruding bricks cast shadows along the wall. Windows punctuate the texture, and the brickwork along the edges of these portals further develops abstract geometric relations while remaining loyal to the structural logic. -- ArchDaily

the front facade’s meticulously detailed masonry veil. The single-withe screen wall, which is given lateral stability by a steel frame and a custom-designed anchor system, shades the floor-to-ceiling window walls beyond and also provides visual privacy. The Lanxi Curtilage, International Intangible Cultural Heritage Park, Chengdu, China, 2011 designed by Archi Union Architects
It is an interpretation of traditional Chinese architecture through the language of digital fabrication methods. The design of the ripple wall derived from a digital interpretation of water, a flexible yet natural conception. We developed an algorithm that mimicked the transient behavior of water, which could be frozen in time allowing a literal architectural expression of its transient behavior. We adapted this algorithm to process a traditional building material, blue bricks, in a staggered joint pattern, in the same way as it produced a surface before, creating a bonded brick pattern with the intrinsic dynamics of water, and providing a light and transparent effect as well as structural walls. The design focuses on developing an artistic pattern as well as on creating a feasible fabrication pattern. -- ArchDaily

The material palette of “Samrode” is also based in the historic precedent. Traditional construction techniques, nevertheless, are re-interpreted according to standards of present-day design aesthetic and contribute to the unmistakably contemporary character of the building. See-through stacking of bricks along the main façade should be noted in particular, as it allows combining close resemblance to the visual character of the opaque brick warehouse precedent with the must-have requirement for light and views of a modern-day office building typology. -- ArchDaily

The ‘Little Brick Studio’ pays homage to the suburbs industrial past. The beautiful brick detailing in the area inspired the design, we wanted to make our own contribution to the brick texture of the suburb. Design development has addressed the fact that the triangular site sits within a conservation area, and careful consideration has been given to the building’s Indian Sandstone façade. The masonry brick walls play an important role on the project as they are part of the structure and re-interpret the traditional brick wall, blurring the boundary between structure and ornament. Even though the house is painted from the outside in earthen color, which functions as an element of landscape, the accent in design is not on color, but rather on texture. The clinker tiles of varied thickness are arranged so as to form a three-dimensional mosaic with an agitated and flickering cover. The container is integrated by stone-faced concrete-brick walls that are rotated seven degrees each from their centerline. This rotation creates a pattern with a connotation to textiles: rough as the skin of a boxer and artistically hand-crafted at once. -- ArchDaily

The envelope is made of a deep mat black structural concrete. Opacity, minerality , thickness, are all questions / answers to a hardcore postmodern context , and the formal and chromatic hypertrophy linked to it. ....the building brings the atmosphere of the light from the tabaco drying-building through a ceramic fabric inspired by the traditional brick found in these kinds of buildings. Light enters -in those spaces that the program allows- through the holes in the facade. This produces a dematerialized facade with refined geometries, which allows the filtration of sunlight through the walls. -- ArchDaily
